Queen Of The Mist

Pint of Wine Theatre Company presents Queen Of The Mist

Words and Music by Michael John LaChiusa

Pint of Wine Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Michael John LaChiusa's Queen Of The Mist comes to the Charing Cross Theatre for a strictly limited six-week season from 15 August to 28th September 2019. Queen Of The Mist, which received its UK premiere in a sold-out run at the Jack Studio Theatre in April, is based on the astounding and outrageous true story of Anna Edson Taylor, who in 1901 on her 63rd birthday set out to be the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel of her own design. With a soaring score that incorporates turn of the century themes with LaChiusa's insightful and engaging style, this award-winning musical is the story of how one woman risked death so that she could live.

The original 2011 Off-Broadway production of Queen Of The Mist won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical and was nominated for six Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical.

  • Interesting , needs a better venue

    27 September 2019

The performance was good , its an interesting take on an unusual and ultimately tragic tale . The first half of the show was very good , however the story struggled in second half . Im not sure if that was entirely down to the tale or because I sweated my own body weight in an airless theatre . The Charing Cross Theatre didn’t do the tale an favours . It’s still worth a look as its reasonably priced .

  • Great show, strange theatre layout

    29 August 2019

This show was nothing like I was expecting, I knew it was a musical but didn't realise that it's an operatic musical, less Grease and more HMS Pinafore. I'm also not sure that the theatre layout whereby the performance area is in the middle of the seats is the best layout as it means that you are regularly looking either at the back or side of the actors but neither of these detracted from my enjoy of the show.
