Home sweet home or a tender trap

Starting off a little Alan Ayckbournish this ends up feeling a bit Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf - but always entertaining. Script is witty & tackles feminist issues with all their permutations. Performances are outstanding. The set also deserves special credit. My only quibble was the ending which seemed unsure of what it was trying to say.

We saw Home I'm Darling on the 28th of March its a fast moving play/comedy based on the late 1950's period but set in present day. The music was from the late 50 period.It was very fast moving and the acting was excellent ( how they managed to remember the words and also the considerable amount of movement required took great skill) The plot is about a redundant woman who is made redundant and who agrees with her husband to become a bit like a "Stepford Wife" although the setting in this case was Welwyn Garden City. Lots of humour but also some sadness with a dominant mother trying to cure her from being just a housewife.
Only on a short run so get to see it before it goes

I found the whole story of where a modern woman wants to live a 50s life and serve her husband weird. It was moderately funny. The colourful decor and outfits were the best part.

I want to see this show because I am a big fan of Katherine Parkinson in the IT Crowd, I took my friend along because it was her birthday, we both loved it, it’s a really clever idea for a play, we loved the set and the costumes, It was thought-provoking and very funny but also touching, excellent, I would really recommend it.

I loved the set, the costumes and the energy with this play. The acting was great especially the mother.
For me the storyline was a little thin. I kept waiting for something to happen. Even in the second half it didn't really take off.
However I would recommend it.

Not having read any reviews for the play just knew it has good ones on the out stars rating plus the girl from the IT crowd and Humans ( Katherine Parkinson) was in it so it had to be great.
The scene is set in a fifties style house but it wasn’t clear to me until the play was advancing that it was modern day, which was a good twist.
All tha actors were great especially KP, my only dislike about the play was
Just after the interval about 15minutes in to the scene the Daughter and mother light real cigarettes my partner is asthmatic and in the past has had an attack just by the smell of smoke on people’s clothes, I don’t like the smell myself of cigarettes any way, thought it was banned in public places since 2007.
That’s the only thing that spoiled an others wise GREAT play and night out.

I thought Hamilton could not be beaten as a fab night out in 2019 and then I saw this. What a stunning play. Clever, witty and poignant. It covered so many topics and all brilliantly. I have always loved Katherine Parkinson and her performance here is sublime. She is also completely supported in fantastic co-stars. The show made me laugh and cry and cringe just a bit too. A really wonderful, deep, compelling play. I saw it with my husband and 15 year old daughter and we all just loved it.

Bloody loved this play. The set is gorgeous, abd the dresses and the juve music and dancing were a little great. But, issues of what is feminism, what is a marriage, finding yourself, #metoo, really enjoyable.

Brilliant matinee in London ‘Home I’m Darling’ - excellent acting throughout - love the daughter and the mum, especially as we went as a mum & daughter duo. Strange story but we well recommend, if you like quirky in a lovely 50s setting, and are nostalgic about the fashion of the time - I shall say no more .... except, ‘look out for the laptop’. Ah, so that’s why the title is fuddled!

We were expecting a light comedy, as we've enjoyed Katherine Parkinson in the IT Crowd and in Doc Martin, but it turned out to be more of a dark comedy - thought provoking and we're still discussing it. Signs of a good play, with great performances all round.

Absolutely wonderful performance from entire cast, bringing humour, sadness and fun. Mum was brilliant with her reality checks. Loved the details on stage, costumes, little details and music. All is possible if you work on it.

I did enjoy the play very much although my view was reduced by a large, slightly inebriated person in front of me. My friend had an awful evening as the hearing loop wouldn’t connect to her hearing aid but she is making a separate complaint. I want to know why we paid £66 per ticket but the ticket said full price £55. Why £11 discrepancy?
