Nigel Slater's Toast

Nigel Slater’s Toast is a new play based on his award-winning autobiography. Vividly recreating suburban England in the 1960s, Nigel Slater’s childhood is told through the tastes and smells he grew up with. From making the perfect sherry trifle and waging war over cakes through to the playground politics of sweets and the rigid rules of restaurant dining, this is a moving and evocative tale of love, loss and… toast.

  • An amazing and fun evening

    2 August 2019

Nigel Slater’s ‘Toast’ is just wonderful. I laughed, I cried, I sang and I ate all the sweet treats I was offered. Even though it is Nigel’s story, it evoked so much of my own childhood revisiting all the foods of bygone years that act like markers on the road to being a grown up. But heck, I was being a kid in a heartbeat! Seriously fabulous faultless cast. The best night I’ve had in the theatre in years.

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a few hours, all the cast were totally amazing, great stage set and the production had a feel good factor with a tinge of sadness. Thoroughly recommend!

  • Delectable!

    31 July 2019

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The actors shifted seamlessly between different character roles and delivered an uplifting and poignant reflection of the childhood of Nigel Slater. The food tasting and references to 60's/70's cuisine was a plus. Great stuff!
