Bring a hat

Even though it rained, everyone had a great time. Bring a hat ... no umbrellas allowed ... if you are on the open floor.
The acting ... and casting ... was superb.

Fantastic, lively, embracing of the audience, left feeling like it was a one off, which compliments the actors being able to achieve this. Excellent show.

Amazing

Never seen the play, first time at the Globe. All the cast were amazing, even with planes flying overhead every so often I could still hear their amazing voices. Enjoyed the play, costume and set design were interesting.

The play is a great realisation of the characters and politics of Rome which Shakespeare was presenting; the use of a more modern setting and uniforms made for an effective analogy of the situation and positions. Characters such as Cassius were particularly well done
And the way casca and Caesar's lines are read (some stilted and some with sudden outburst) makes the play more engaging as well as emphasising and creating new humour.
But most importantly it increased my application of the play

Great experience
21 August 2022
I went with my daughters aged 7 and 10. We'd read the children's version before which was very useful! The actors/ actresses were brilliant and we loved how they interacted with the audience. A great setting and experience!

Wonderful Experience
19 August 2022
It was our first visit and it was very special. To see the inside of the Globe, so authentically restored, was amazing. Intimate yet quite grand, the atmosphere was amazing.
The staff were knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly.
We were worried that Julius Caesar might be a little 'dry' for our 13 year old twins, but due too the quality and projection of the excellent actors, they were fully immersed and engrossed for the entire play (with the odd plot detail given to them),
Standing in the 'groundlings' area was tiring but at 6 pounds per person, made the evening a bargain, as well as being an unforgettable experience.
We will definitely return.

Costums were a shame. Excidingly liberal adaptation of a play when you are expecting to see classical theatre at Shakespeare s house. Wouldnt come back at all.

Loses momentum?
12 August 2022
The climax of the play is Marc Antony’s “honourable” speech and I’m not sure if it’s the text or the production (or the heat) but I felt it lost it’s way after that. Not helped by combatants being indistinguishable in some parts. Brutus was underpowered compared to Cassius, Caesar and Marc Antony and wasn’t therefore clear why she is central to the play. Support actors and staging fine but I didn’t get the upbeat dancing at the end. Does all theatre have to be musical theatre? It’s a political play with much resonance for our time-it could have taken courage from that and retained the irony, self-delusion and sly humour of the material. Great location of course, very easy and accessible.

Read the Will!
5 August 2022
A wonderful night, our first at The Globe! Fine performances all around but the highlights were the occasional bouts of audience participation, beautifully encouraged by the cast, mingling in the pit with those standing. It seems to even surprise the actors when we started baying for Marc Anthony to read Caesar’s will!

Unforgettable
5 August 2022
It’s my second visit to the Globe and it was unbelievably better than my first.
The atmosphere and setting are something to behold and once your breath is back, it’s time to enjoy Julius Caesar.
It was a wonderful adaptation full of humour, emotion, passion and action.
The cast were superb and their connection with the audience throughout made it a special night.
If you want to escape London 2022 for three hours you should go. No, you must go!!

Stunning
3 August 2022
Why stunning?
I was not sure how I would enjoy a ‘history play’ But it was stunning, brought it home so much. I even dreamt about it. Combining it about Puttin and the war in in Ukraine and later whether ‘my’ forces where divided against grammar logic and logic! 🙈

Julius Ceasar now a lame woke farce
3 August 2022
As you can tell from my headline, I did not like this director's take on Julius Ceasar. The bizarre injection of comedy into the tragedy is odd and off-putting. The casting of women in the rolls of Brutus and Cassius led no where as they played the parts as men. Costume design was lacking an creativity. Overall I have nothing positive to say.

Powerful theatre
3 August 2022
This was a strong production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar with lots of powerful acting from the whole cast. Mark Antony was read by a stand-in actor, David Hartley, who did an amazing job delivering the best lines of the play. We thought the portrayal of Cassius was really interesting as it was sympathetic and wrought with much less slyness and envy than we’d expected. For £6 a ticket, everyone should go!

Disenchanting
12 July 2022
We entered the globe with the expectations of seeing Julius Caesar as what we were taught .. The ambiance and the look of globe was very good . Rendering of the Shakespeare verses was good. But the costumes were a shame. A country where historical traditions respected, dressing Caesar not in Roman attire is a unpardonable. The height of joke is the use of pistols and guns by soldiers. There were no guns and pistols at that time. It all shows that the globe management has not considered the play or the viewers seriously. Any way it was not up to the expectations.

Took my 13 year old soon to be 14 years old grandson who is studying the play at school. I wasn’t sure what he would make of it He lived the production and said he thought it was good. His mother called this morning to inform me how he had enjoyed the play had said it was very good!

Sadly underwhelming
15 May 2022
Although many performances were incredible, such as that of Dickon Tyrrell as Julius Caesar himself, the impassioned Charlotte Bate as Cassius, the entertaining and versatile Omar Bynon as the soothsayer, and the detailed and deep Jack Myers as Casca, the arguable lead of the play, Brutus, was disconnected from the character and motivation of the piece. And while the actors voice was booming, it lacked clarity, sincerity, drive and meaning. There was absolutely no physical and visceral connection to the character. The actor seemed to act more with their forehead than with any guts, and all I saw was basic technique and no artistry. And even then, in speech, the actor used the same tempo rhythm for most of their speech’s, which made it nearly impossible to piece out what was actually important to the character. If the director wanted to center women in positions of power striving for their “big break” against a predominantly white, old, male culture, and decided to cast a young, black, women to oppose the structures that have prevailed for centuries, I am lost as to why they simply didn’t have Cash Holland play the role of Brutus, who was absolutely fantastic and mesmerizing as Murellus. Perhaps because they wanted a stronger actor who was capable of the role that doubled with Portia? Either way, it seemed all the actors were working to make up for the lack of connection in Brutus, which was really upsetting as we really should be on Brutus’ side and I found myself not caring if she died or not. Why the choice of not actually physically killing Brutus? To not give the audience the satisfaction of yet another death of a black body? Understandable. But falls flat as there is no care for Brutus at any point. I was much more disappointed with Cassius’ death. Now THAT would have been a leader, based in Bate’s performance. Speaking of deaths, Brutus’ desire to kill Caesar was empty and seemed random. All of the other senators were simply bursting and ready for it, while Brutus meandered around simply doing what the director told them to do. And as for the direction and vision of the play, it lacked imagination. It was as if the idea was as I had said earlier with the need to put women in positions of power, and that’s where it stopped. Overall, the production lacked meaning and I was finding myself wanting Caesar to stay in power even if it meant, as a Roman, I stayed a slave. How absolutely sad and depressing. I gave it 2 stars because all of the other performances were worth seeing.

Poor Experience
13 May 2022
I get the idea of doing a modern take on Shakespeare, but with that people expect a more modern style of acting. The overzealous and robust acting style lacked connection to the text and I spent more time laughing during Caesar's stabbing than feeling the significant loss of a political figure. Left after first act closed.

Exciting and pacey
12 May 2022
We had a great time last night at this high-energy production of Julius Caesar. Standing in the Yard with our £5 tickets, we were mingling with the actors and really felt involved - there’s even crowd participation: :) The story was told clearly, there were plenty of laughs and the dark relevance of a story about fame, ambition, jealousy and betrayal was very apparent. Highly recommended.
