DISAPPOINTING
17 March 2016
Jewish humour is usually very entertaining, but not in this case. There was little to laugh at, and parts of the play made me feel very uncomfortable. Bad language can still be entertaining, but in this case it was not. The performers were very accomplished but were not well served by the script.

Extremely funny with a dark twist. An insight into human frailties. Brilliantly acted as the timing has to be spot on.

Booked this after reading reviews and wasn't disappointed. Plenty of laughter and great acting. Yes there is swearing in it but was funny rather than being offensive. Would recommend.

A real argument
13 March 2016
The show opens with a woman who talks relentlessly, switching breathlessly from item to item in a rush to convince the world of her opinions, while her cousin tries to block her out. She quickly becomes irritant but as such also real as the audience directly emphasises with the other characters trapped with this intense being. The playwrite bravely had her ranting well beyond a traditional point - erring at times on tedious but in perfect mirroring of the reality of such people, that is a credit to the play, which draws you in. Then the conflict and cleverness of the play really begins as a force to reckon with arrives. A man with whom your allegiance wobbles as she and he become increasingly intense and hurtful to each other. In amongst this, is a finely balanced debate, through heated character struggles, of the importance and 'righteousness' of Jewishness - which as a non-Jew was fascinating for both criticising and defending the importance of the culture and the concept of defending their own racial/cultural purity by risking being discriminatory of non-Jews. It's essentially a sprawling argument which through strong characterisations rises far above a crude intellectual exposition, but though I cared and I laughed (on occasion, not consistently), the simplicity and restrictions and even occasional tedium of it, meant the journey it took me on was perhaps still too much of an intellectual than emotional one. I couldn't say it was a totally powerful dramatic journey which truly moved me. And though this play offered something fresh and enjoyable, I would limit it to a 4 out of 5 stars. Nonetheless I'd recommend seeing it, if nothing else but for a fascinating piece of "people watching" with a realism of over-bearing characters and dialogue that is in itself brilliant.

The play started off a little slow but once all the 4 characters were together it was non stop laughter and great acting. The story could be related to any race with close knit families ties so you find yourself relating to certain issues of the play. Good fun!

13 March 2016
An interesting play! Good acting but a weak story with lots of bad language - not for you if this would offend. We saw a couple of people walk out of the performance. It was OK, but wouldn't recommend it.

Sharp, funny and poignant...
12 March 2016
A brilliantly acted comedy.
Just four players keeps it tight and the balance of the cast is spot-on.
Two intense performances complemented by one sugary and one brooding.
Petty family and religious issues meet bigger, deeper themes - all dealt with humour and sensitivity.
The time flew by. 10/10

8 March 2016
Committed performances from actors (truthful vulnerability and roaring laughter truths of human interactions).
As with the structure , sections became boring and repetitive in rhythm , space and energy. Left with a sense of grey dissatisfaction at the place the characters leave the audience to carry the stories hazy social message.

Great story but abrasive performance
8 March 2016
The story behind is play is brilliant, however I found the play itself rather testing. The dialogues are quite aggressive and long-winded, and one feels like they are being shouted at for most of it. The actors themselves were fantastic, however I believe the production itself could be toned down and performed in a more subtle manner.

Great contrast to the big musicals
6 March 2016
Show was brilliantly funny, and the cast played each part perfectly.
Show takes a while to going, but once the character of the older brother arrived things go to a new level, and everything begins to fall apart and the real comedy starts.
The rant by the older brother is fantastically written and performed unbelievably well.
Well worth the £25 for each of tickets.
Great contrast to the huge production we'd seen the night before (wicked).

More to this play than just comedy
29 February 2016
"Side splitting" comedy read the reviews, and I went to the performance expecting to see just that... after all Jewish humour is such a rich vein of warm abiding mirth. But the backdrop to the many laughs in this play is a deep and quite violent conflict between tradition and secularism - between loyalty due to one's roots versus one's own independently derrived philosophical leanings. In a way the play resembled "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf". It was all the better for this...

Bad Jews? Bad acting!
28 February 2016
This was a potentially amusing, thought provoking play ruined by very disappointing performances. The hysteria of the two main protagonists marred the whole, obscuring the poignant message.
If they had spoken not shouted and paused for breath, the audience could have appreciated the sentiment. Instead it was a cacophony of noise and sweat, signifying little.

Torture
28 February 2016
I have been to some bad plays in my time but this takes the bagel. Boring, tedious, definitely not funny. Shockingly bad. There was no half time break so had to sit through to the bitter end otherwise I would have had to wake my row up to get out.
I gave this play one star because there was no option to give less.
