Incredible
30 August 2019
What an incredible show! The skill and professionalism of all the actors in this production of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was amazing. Emotionally charged throughout. A totally memorable performance!,
( Sadly the ending was spoiled by the need to take part in the fire drill. It completely detracted from the beautiful and bitter sweet ending. Not happy about that theatre manager!)

In 35 degrees for way too long
27 August 2019
Hello,
We booked this with my boyfriend, if I knew that I will need to sit in 35 degree room for 3 hours for £60 I would have booked spa day!
Play although meaningful and interesting was way too long - first part was a struggle and we nearly left. The view was restricted by pillars, and while it says in the ticket that it "might" block the view - it definetly did, I was moving right and left all the time to see the stage. But the heat in the room was something unbearable.

Very average
27 August 2019
I didn’t find myself at the edge of my seat, my heart strings were not pulled and no tear came to my eye.
Long winded story which could be told in half the time. The first act was especially long winded and we didn’t meet the captain til well in.
The acting was average and captain Corelli seems somewhat stiff and stilted. My favourite was the goat, actress did a really good job ‘acting the goat’.

Thoroughly enjoable evening
25 August 2019
Very enjoyable evening with only two minor disappointments:
The lead actress although she improved in the second act was disappointing
The background music playing while Carlo's letter was being read out drowned his message for me

24 August 2019
Very convincing performance by all members of the cast portraying the harsh realities of war alongside emotional turmoil. Thought sound and video projection used very effectively to enhance minimal scenery. Thought goat & pine martin were astonishing in the way that they remained in character. Thoroughly e joyed the entire project. May very well go again.

3 generations together
21 August 2019
My mum (78) myself (51) and my daughter (21) booked this theatre trip as my mum’s birthday treat. Having learned the story from the film I found this stage production quite different and imaginative. Compelling and poignant. Brilliant acting and use of the stage with some great visual effects. Seated in stalls row H my daughter couldn’t see well past the tall person sat in front so we swapped seats for the second half to share the restriction. Otherwise first-class performance and would highly recommend .

Captain Corelli's Mandolin
20 August 2019
Totally surreal....this is diversity in the extreme!
Not sure how the author would feel about the adaptation.
The transformation of the pine martin to a human baby was nothing short of a miracle.
Felt sorry for the goat with her bloomers caught up in her skirt. Looked a bit uncomfortable.
Not sure about the doctor's frequent peeing on the herbs...he needs to get his prostate checked.
The gender neutral aspect added a challenge when figuring out who was what.
Some very interesting special effects especially the bomb scenes, though did worry about those heavy kit bags that the soldiers and soldierettes were carrying.
Leading lady's voice had a bit of a hard edge to it....
but the poor old Greek mum's voice was pretty spectacular.
The random accents and bursts of Italian, Greek and Italian added to the general cacaphony.
Tremendous effort by all the cast. Some poignant and thoughtful touches.

Too much on war
16 August 2019
I had watched the film, and loved it,, how ever the play at the beginning spend to long on the war,, and dragged on abit,, the second half was better as was more of the main two characters,, as the film was finding love. While. At war.

Captain Corelli
13 August 2019
I enjoyed this show more than I was expecting to. The story stuck closely to the book so was quite stark at times when dealing with the effects of war. The acting was good and there was humour as well.
The woman acting the goat was amazing. Don't ask ! and the mixed gender and ethnicity worked well. The large "rock" at the back of the stage lent itself to all sorts of dramatic sound and visual effects.

I enjoyed the play and admired the director's vision in putting on a well know book and film. The actors were excellent - I particularly admired the main characters and the goat and the pine martin. A little too much of the war for my liking.

Captain Correli's Mandolin Review
30 July 2019
This production worked around a classic novel was outstanding and full of excellent performances and direction. The design and staging aspects of this play were excellent and very creative and visually impressive.
The production was not only sensitive to the original novel but also very thoughtful in its theatrical representation.

A slow start but entertaining
26 July 2019
We enjoyed the show but found the first half rather slow. There were some good effects especially in the war scenes. Sometimes it was difficult to know which side the actors were fighting on as they swapped roles a lot.
Some of the actors had strong regional accents which I found slightly off putting at times especially as when trying to work out who was Greek, Italian or German.
A moving and enjoyable story on the whole.

Over long
25 July 2019
So it didn’t help it was an incredibly hot night, we were literally melting in our seats!
Maybe wrongly we were expecting it to be more like the film but obviously stuck closely to the book! Which would have been fine except it was over long, captain corelli didn’t come on to the 2nd half, animals were played by humans, we felt no empathy for the characters , we were literally counting the seconds till it ended, the star is for the wonderful singing by the Italian soldiers! Really sorry for bad review but when you spend so much money at London theatres you expect so much more!

garbage
22 July 2019
I gave it one star because I couldnt give it none..
I have never seen so much garbage in such a short period of time, my wife loves the film, not so much the book, this version is probably the worst acting I have seen, a half thrown together set, done on a budget.
After 30 seconds I knew it wasnt for me, a woman acting as a goat in every scene totally ruining any possible way of getting lost in the play, I paid £90 each for seats and we left at the interval, and the gay scene was totally out of the blue, and Christain Bales character was black, so was the young girl who as meant to be half jewish, Political correctness taking over every aspect of todays world... save your money and go and watch Phantom ....

Tedious
22 July 2019
Sorry but we didn’t enjoy this show. The goat was very good but I think this isn’t what we were expecting. It felt a bit amdram. It was difficult to empathise with the characters and the main Pergolia ( wrong spelling I’m sure) was hard to hear and seemed cold. The singing parts were good and clever interpretation of the war. I felt the whole story was too big for this format. The film was beautiful so very disappointed.

19 July 2019
Both my wife and myself have read the book a couple of times and seen the film 2 or 3 times. We are delighted we went to see this show & have already recommended it to both friends & family.
