The unreal Doctor

This play attempted to confront issues producing conflicts between medics and religious groups. The confrontations between the people from the two camps were loud but mostly not realistic. The introduction of abortion as a problem and an issue of conflict was simply unconvincing-a lot of shouting does not replace well argued thoughts about an issue.

Outstanding play

Juliet Stevenson is outstanding as is the play. The first half was too shouty as the disagreements could have been argued with emphasis rather than shouting. When actors are not facing the stage they need better voice projection. Other people in the ice cream queue said they felt exactly the same. The second act was brilliant and the programme very informative.

The staging and the wonderful performance by Juliet Stevenson made this play for me. The rest of the inconsistent performances and slightly tired, almost lazy stereotyping did not. Really interesting premise but I just didn’t buy into a lot of the characters.
