The Ocean at the End of the Lane

From the imagination of Neil Gaiman, best-selling author of Good Omens, Coraline and The Sandman, the National Theatre’s smash-hit production The Ocean at the End of the Lane returns to the West End this October for seven weeks only. Garnering more than 100 five-star reviews, this spectacular and thrilling theatrical event is a tour de force of magic and storytelling. Adapted by Joel Horwood and directed by Katy Rudd, The Ocean at the End of the Lane takes audiences on an epic journey to a childhood once forgotten.

Returning to his childhood home, a man finds himself standing beside the pond of the old Sussex farmhouse where he used to play. He’s transported to his 12th birthday when his friend Lettie claimed it wasn’t a pond, but an ocean... Plunged into a magical world, their survival depends on their ability to reckon with ancient forces that threaten to destroy everything around them.

  • Ocean's apart

My partner loved it and thought it was all very clever. I agree, but I thought the story line was a bit more for kids than adults, probably borne out by the number of teenagers in the audience. I would have pre-ordered drinks for the interval but there was only an option to buy by the glass, not bottle. Seats good and staff all friendly and pricing of drinks quite reasonable.

I was disappointed at the acting standard in this production. The sets are imaginative and exciting but the writing is also not that good at all.

I didn’t know the story but was surprised and delighted by the show. The acting was excellent, effects really well done. I thoroughly recommend this for children (older) and adults. A little scary at times for younger kids.
