The Three Musketeers
Heroic deeds, epic duels and a lavish masquerade ball all come to life in a huge, outdoor adventure for all the family.
It’s 1626 and a young d’Artagnan sets out for Paris, determined to join the King’s Musketeers. There’s just one problem, women aren’t allowed. Undaunted, our heroine disguises herself as a man and manages to befriend the legendary Musketeer trio Athos, Aramis and Porthos.
The four fast friends are soon caught up in deadly plot involving the Queen, twelve diamonds studs and the safety of the entire French state. Will this mean war with England? Will all four of our heroes survive? And will anyone discover d’Artagnan’s secret?
This summer in the grounds of St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, join d’Artagnan on her secret mission to be the first female Musketeer.
Paul-Ryan Carberry direct’s Daniel Winder’s adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic novel as you’ve never seen it before, featuring spectacular swordights choreographed by Roger Bartlett. Returning to Iris in 2018, Jenny Horsthuis stars as d’Artagnan.

Iris is an award-winning theatre company, most celebrated for its annual summer season. In 2017, the company hosted a record breaking year at St Paul’s with Macbeth and Hansel & Gretel, the latter shortlisted for Best Production for Young People (8+) at the Offies, the award the company won the previous year for Treasure Island.

Recommended for ages 8+, though some scenes may be upsetting for very small children.
- What Should I Expect
These performances take place in unallocated promenade outdoors at St Paul’s Church in the gardens, on both grass and concrete, with some scenes indoors. As a result, audiences should be aware that the performance will go ahead during adverse weather conditions, including rain, except where the safety of the audience or the cast is in question. Generally, the theatre will not cancel any performance due to weather less than 30 minutes in advance of the show.
For concerts and showcases which take place in the church we do not provide allocated seating as the church benches are not numbered. For our summer shows in the gardens we provide ample benches and chairs for audience members to sit on and our Front of House staff are equipped with folding chairs if you would like a seat with a back rest.

This thrilling adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel follows young d’Artagnan (played by Jenny Horsthuis who returns to Iris after her acclaimed performance in Macbeth last year) on her secret mission to be the first female Musketeer. Young audiences will be hypnotised as heroic deeds, epic duels (with spectacular sword fights choreographed by Roger Bartlett, Treasure Island 2016) and a lavish masquerade ball all come to life in this huge outdoor adventure. Daniel Winder’s adaptation of this classic novel presents the story as you’ve never seen it before.

"All for one, and one for all"

Excellent performances all round. This absolutely includes the actors who showed enormous energy and immense skill throughout the entire performance. It clearly appeared that the cast get on well with each other and this came through in their performances. They occasionally had to battle with external noise from a bustling and noisy Covent Garden, plus at one point the Met Police helicopter searching for some 'scally', but they perceived. The modern twist on an old fable was a welcome change. The full use of the wonderful location was cleverly crafted and the actors relished the audience participation, both young and old. Family entertainment of the highest order 'Super, Smashing, Sensational'

having attended several performances here with the Iris company, i knew what to expect. The setting is quirky, the sets have a homemade look to them which adds to the atmosphere. The actors ooze energy and their project their voices well so everyone can hear clearly. The audience moves with the action to several stages around the church rear garden and into the church itself, which is very eerie. Highly recommend this show.

Lively play for all the family

This was a lively experience and the hardworking actors gave it their all. We had a 10 year old with us who loved it too, especially as the spectators had to physically follow the scenes and venues round the garden and in and out of St Paul's Church. Great fun for all (and based on a classic literary novel to boot !)
