It Happened in Key West

Last chance to see this enchanting Romantic Musical Comedy – must end 18 August!

Based on a true story, this ‘incredibly touching’ (Theatre Weekly) and ‘utterly captivating’ (TheatreWorld Internet Magazine) new production crosses ’50 First Dates’ with ‘Corpse Bride’ (Time Out), making it the ‘funniest musical comedy you’ll see in 2018’ (Theatre Reviews).

‘Outstanding’ (Times), the ‘impressive’ Wade McCollum (Guardian) and ‘charming’ Alyssa Martyn (British Theatre Guide) take you on a journey to 1930s Florida, where an eccentric scientist becomes hopelessly inseparable from the woman of his dreams.

This ‘hilarious’ (London City Nights) romance is like nothing you’ve ever seen! ‘Moving and uplifting’ (London Theatre Reviews), watch Elena come alive with Carl as he lives out their fantasy beneath the palm trees and sunshine of Key West.

  • Wackly wonderful

    2 August 2018

The scenery as always at the Charing Cross was simple, but still provided the right mix and being a musical it’s all about portraying a story. Karl has a rich, husky powerful voice and eillana had a very smooth pure voice. The story is strange, which gives it a humourous overtone. It could have done with a couple extra songs, maybe a costume change for some. It had the right stuff the end of the first act was immense and intense. Fabulous. A must see, feel good show with fun and laughter.

  • Leaves you uneasy

The songs are nice enough and the performances (particularly the male lead's) are good but nothing can change the fact that the show is about necrophilia. Trying to pass this as an expression of true love is somehow sickening. There were children in the audience and I do not think that they should have been there.

I went along to the matinee performance yesterday not expecting too much due to the mixed reviews I'd read. However I have to say I really enjoyed it. The acting and singing were very good, and although the subject matter could have been a bit macabre and wierd, it was portrayed with humour and a certain amount of pathos. I would certainly recommend seeing this musical.
