Scrumptious!
28 July 2019
An incredible cast, genius staging, and a fully immersive experience that took the audience along every step of the way. From the smell of toast wafting through the theatre's entrance to the taste-along Walnut Whips, this is a unique piece of theatrical brilliance. Thoroughly recommended!

A different but wonderful show
26 July 2019
Funny/sad show. Although I knew the storyline from having read the book and seen the television version, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. All the actors were superb, a small cast but all played very good parts. The handing round of sweets and food to the audience was a novel idea! What a life Nigel Slater led and how well has he done coming from nothing, such determination.

21 July 2019
Loved this performance by just 5 actors - amazing! The format was different to anything I've previously seen and the distribution of sweets was a great touch; I haven't eaten 'girlie' parma violets since, well, the 60's! A great play, would highly recommend it.

A nostalgic foodie trip with Nigel
18 July 2019
Delightful play about Nigel Slater's childhood and adolescence and how he learned to love food and cookery. We were particularly charmed by the passing round of sweets, Walnut Whips and miniature lemon meringue pie. All performances were excellent and, being of the same generation as Nigel, we particularly enjoyed the references to 1950s/1960s food and music

Singing, dancing, food, comedy, emotion - what’s not to like!
The small cast of 5 work really well together in this quirky telling of Nigel Slater’s childhood and transition to becoming an adult and a food writer.
I particularly liked the staging - the moving kitchen cabinets that were danced all over the stage were great fun.

What a wonderful little theatre - so glad I’ve found it. Had no idea what to expect from the play and wasn’t totally prepared for the emotion! Would highly recommend and with free sweet treats what’s not to like! It’s a pity the story stops where it does.
Great service and attitude from all the theatre / bar staff too.

Crumbs, Toast Was Good
26 June 2019
A really well acted play about the childhood of chef Nigel Slater. Really well acted by all the cast and the actor Playing Nigel Slater had his mannerisms and voice patterns perfectly. Nice touch including the audience with the passing out of confectionery. A show not to be missed.

21 June 2019
Very enjoyable and highly professional cast! Suitable for all ages. A child near me, clapped with great excitement when sweets were being distributed. Even better for show for people born in 50s and 60s as a lot of what occurs they can, like me, resonate with. Funny - but sad too at times. You don't have to be a fan of Nigel Slater to enjoy this. I wasn't before I saw it, but I AM now! GO!!

A simple & effective setting to portray Slater’s childhood memories. Food plays an integral part throughout, including the distribution of sweets to the audience. The production evoked the 60’s through music, costume & design.
A very enjoyable, amusing yet touching adaptation of Nigel Slater’s memoir.
